Über diesen Blog
Wissenschaft lebt vom Austausch, von Kritik und Verständigung. Der ISOE-Blog ist ein Ort, an dem wir – in diesem Sinne – Ergebnisse, Fragen und Thesen aus unserer Forschungsarbeit teilen und zur Diskussion stellen. Ebenso wichtig ist uns, Einblicke in unsere transdisziplinären Forschungsprozesse und unsere Forschungspraxis zu geben. Dieser Blog ist jedoch nicht nur ein Schaufenster unserer Forschung, sondern auch ein Ort, an den wir Wissenschaftler*innen anderer Institutionen einladen, ihre Arbeiten vorzustellen und den Austausch zu suchen.
Die Verbindung von Krise – Kritik – Gestaltung zeichnet die Soziale Ökologie aus. Dieses noch junge Wissenschaftsgebiet hat in den letzten Jahrzehnten wichtige Beiträge zur transdisziplinären Nachhaltigkeitsforschung geleistet. Die Soziale Ökologie erlaubt uns, gezielt zu fragen, wie Gesellschaften ihre Beziehungen zu Natur regulieren und wann Gefahr besteht, dass diese sich nicht nachhaltig entwickeln. Zudem hilft uns die Soziale Ökologie dabei zu entscheiden, welches Wissen wir benötigen und wie wir es integrieren müssen, um diese Fragen beantworten zu können. Inhaltlich wünschen wir uns daher Beiträge zum Stand und zur Weiterentwicklung der Sozialen Ökologie. Wir wünschen uns aber auch – ganz im Sinne einer Verbindung von grundlagen- und anwendungsorientierter Forschung – Ideen, Konzepte, Erfahrungsberichte zu sozial-ökologischen Transformationen.
Über uns
Das ISOE ist das Institut für sozial-ökologische Forschung in Frankfurt am Main. Als eines der führenden Institute der Nachhaltigkeitsforschung entwickeln wir wissenschaftliche Grundlagen und zukunftsweisende Konzepte für sozial-ökologische Transformationen. Deshalb arbeiten wir sowohl grundlagen- als auch beratungsorientiert. Wir forschen transdisziplinär – also in engem Austausch mit Akteur*innen aus Zivilgesellschaft, Politik und Wirtschaft – zu drängenden globalen Problemen wie Wasserknappheit, Klimawandel, Biodiversitätsverlust und Landdegradation. Für tragfähige Lösungen arbeiten wir mit dem Konzept sozial-ökologischer Versorgungsysteme, das die vielfältigen Dynamiken zwischen Gesellschaft und Natur zueinander in Beziehung setzt. Dafür bildet die Soziale Ökologie als Wissenschaft von den gesellschaftlichen Naturverhältnissen die theoretische Grundlage.

About this blog
Science thrives on exchange, critique and communication. Accordingly, our blog is a place where we share results, questions and theses from our research work and put them up for discussion. Providing insights into our transdisciplinary research processes and our research practice is equally important to us. However, this blog is not only a showcase of our research but also a place where we invite scholars from other institutions to present their work and seek exchange.
Social ecology is characterized by the connection between crisis, critique, and shaping. During the last decades, this comparatively young field of science has already made important contributions to transdisciplinary sustainability research. Social ecology allows us to specifically ask how societies regulate their relationships with nature and when a danger arises that these will not develop sustainably. Moreover, social ecology helps us decide what kind of knowledge we need and how to then integrate it in order to answer these questions. Contentwise, we would therefore like to see contributions concerning the state and evolution of social ecology. But in the spirit of linking basic and application-oriented research, ideas, concepts, field reports on social-ecological transformations are also welcome.
About us
ISOE is the Institute for Social-Ecological Research in Frankfurt am Main. As one of the leading institutes for sustainability research, we develop scientific foundations and future oriented concepts for social-ecological transformations. Therefore, our work is both basic and consultancy-oriented. In close exchange with actors from civil society, politics and business, we conduct transdisciplinary research on pressing global problems such as water scarcity, climate change, biodiversity loss and land degradation. For viable solutions, we work with the concept of social-ecological supply systems, which relates the diverse dynamics between society and nature., As the science of the societal relations to nature, social ecology provides the theoretical basis for this.
